CAPTAIN ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITY

A Captain is the formal representative of each team within ARROW.

Captains for each team must be appointed and approved by the ARROW Board, levying the vote of each team’s players in their decision. New teams joining ARROW and registering their players as members herein, may have their Captain assigned prior to admission into ARROW.

Captains are responsible to ensure players on their team follow rules stated in the ARROW League Rules below. This includes but is not limited to ensuring any suspended player does not play. Failure to follow this rule will result in a game suspension for the Captain (if it is determined the Captain knows of the suspended player’s status and the player plays). This rule applies to players who have not paid their dues and are considered non-legal players.

Team Captains are strongly encouraged to designate an Assistant Captain. The Alternate Captain’s name should be sent to the League Commissioner and have their contact information confirmed.

Only team Captains or Alternate Captains (if the Captain is absent) may request what a referee witnessed leading to a call. Berating or abusive behavior by the Captain or Alternate Captain will result in a bench minor being assessed to the team. A second infraction will result in the Captain or Alternate Captain being ejected from the game and a bench minor. If the Captain still disagrees with the call, the Captain may make a written request to the ARROW Referee Coordinator within 24 hours of the game.

Captains are expected to ensure that all players present for each game receive an equally fair amount of ice time.

If a Captain believes the opposing team is in violation of any of ARROW league rules, the Captain should address the issue with either a referee on the ice or with the League Commissioner within 24 hours of the end of the game. If necessary, a Special Meeting may be called to resolve the issue.

If the Captain finds their team consistently low on player turnout, the Captain should contact the League Commissioner for assistance in adding players.

Captains are responsible for helping to ensure their players do not verbally or physically abuse other players or referees. Captains should instruct their players to inform them (the Captain) if the players believe members of the other team are being verbally or physically abusive. The Captain should contact the other team’s Captain to address this issue as well as inform the League Commissioner of the incident.

Captains are responsible to ensure their roster is verified and submitted prior to the start of the game. Captains must mark the player as signed in for each game played, and note any changes with the scorekeeper during warm-ups before puck drop.

Captains, at the end of each session, should take a poll of their players to determine the number of players they expect to return in the following season. This information should be passed onto the League Commissioner.

Everyone who pays to be in the league plays. Captains are permitted to make judgment calls on their lines and may play some players more than others (example: putting stronger players out more at the end of a close game to increase the chance for victory).

Discrimination based on identification of gender, sexual orientation, ability, age, background, religion, beliefs, or personal feelings will not be tolerated by the league. Captains are expected to set a positive example and avoid favoritism; mocking players and verbal abuse is not acceptable and will result in disciplinary action.

Loss of the designated Captain role within ARROW only requires a simple majority vote of the other Captains, with the President of ARROW abstaining for official vote except as a proxy for an absent Captain, or to break a tie vote.

A Captain may voluntarily remove themselves as a Captain by calling a Special Meeting of the ARROW Board and formally offering their resignation from the role, or involuntarily by discontinuation of paying regular member dues.

The names of the individuals who are to serve as Captains until they are replaced, voluntarily or otherwise, are as follows:
